November 5: Yankees parade 2009, 2009 World Series mvp, Yankees win World Series and Yankees Phillies game 6. The Yankees won their 27th title beating Philadelphia Phillies for 7-3 in Game 6 of World Series held last night at the Bronx. Yankees hadn’t clinched a title since 2000.
Hideki Matsui and Andy Pettitte who started the game for Yankees were the stars yesterday. Matsui hit a home run and drove in six runs and could tie a record. The final five outs belonged to Mariano Rivera.
Pettitte became the second pitcher to win all three clinching postseason games. But last night he, after working on 3days’ rest, looked ragged at times with five walks and three strikeouts.
However, he managed better than Phillies’ Pedro Martinez who showed guile over power.
Alex Rodriguez was the first to hit Martinez and that was one of the three hits Yankees could make off Martinez. Martinez issued two walks in turn and both became runs. He lasted four more batters retired them all.
Phillies’ ace player Chase Utley couldn’t repeat his performance of the previous game. He had drilled five homers then. Last night, he grounded into a double play in the first inning, and struck out twice.
Matsui has been consistent and competent for seven seasons and did his best in Game 6also.
Yankees are going to celebrate their World Series win in style. The New York Yankees parade for 2009 will be held Friday morning, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg announced after the Yankees wrapped up their 27th World Series championship.
